Physical posture is holding your body in proper alignment, keeping head above shoulders. shoulders back, etc. Maintaining proper physical posture keeps the musculature of the body healthy and prevents strain. In extreme, poor physical posture can cause permanent physical changes or persistent pain.
Applying a similar theory to the mind, proper mental posture might involve the following:
- remaining focused on the present
- interrupting recurring self-judgment
- experiencing and identifying emotions
- reframing negativity into a neutral or positive view
I think these practices coincide with a lot of mental health progress for people, and they tend to converge along similar paths because, just like building up and affirming the body tends to improve posture, a positive mental space likely draws near to a common shape.
