Exercise V – Activity Tracking December 2024 Results

Happy New Year!
Last month, significant activity was as follows:

November 2024: ~130 significant actions
Week 1: 22 actions
Week 2: 22 actions
Week 3: 44 actions
Week 4: 37 actions

The average activity level was around 4 per day. Daily actions peaked around 10-11 (4 times), and bottomed out at 0-1 (6 times).

My monthly goals for December were:

  • To raise the activity floor to 3 actions per day.
  • To limit total activities per day to 9 at the most, to prevent overexertion on high energy days followed by slumps of inactivity.
  • Attempt to increase the frequency of “accessible” activities from last month, with the eventual goal of transforming them into habits and removing them from the chart as I focus more on challenging activities.

The Results:

December 2024 : 182 significant actions (+52 from Nov)
Week 1: 42 actions
Week 2: 47 actions
Week 3: 51 actions
Week 4: 30 actions

1. Raise activity floor to 3 actions per day (successful)
2. Limit total activity to 9 per day at the most, to prevent overexertion (mostly successful, one day having done 10 and one day doing 12 activities)
3. Increase the frequency of “accessible” activities (again mostly successful)

Analysis:

For the month of December, I completed 182 significant activities, an increase of 52 from last month. The average daily activity went up from 4 to 6! Though much of this can be attributed to dramatically increasing the accuracy of recording, I am still very proud of this increase. It feels good to be doing better, in whatever respect, compared to last month.

In the categories of Hygiene, Mental Health, Self Development, and Social Interaction, actions increased compared to last month. However, in the categories of Physical Health and Tidying Up, actions decreased.

Within the difficulty levels, several higher difficulty actions dropped off in frequency compared to a broad increase in many more lower difficulty actions. This suggests that by choosing to focus on completing a minimum number of actions per day, I was more likely to deprioritize higher difficulty “out of reach” actions throughout the day in favor of completing multiple easier ones. I think this is a good thing, as it shows I am able to adjust my focus and make reasonable accommodation to achieve goals.

Summary:
This can be taken as a great success, and I am happy that the activity tracking exercise is continuing to develop and feels totally within my ability to do. Based on the dramatic increase from last month, I will be curious to see how January goes, and whether I have come up to an accurate baseline or pushed above average with December’s goal of raising the activity floor.

Goals for January are again threefold, but this time are intended to continue the previous month’s aims by targeting easy activities to repeat daily, with the goal of developing good daily habits.

  • Every morning brush my teeth, and every evening practice gratitudes. (Habit development)
  • Design and create a C program of any kind that can write to a file. (Targeted Behavior)
  • Maintain accuracy of documenting activities, to continue to hone in on a baseline activity level. (Data collection)
